Parents and Friends of Harriman High School:
Harriman High School is partnering with PlanetHS in order to improve our communication with the community. In the coming days and weeks we will be setting up classrooms, clubs, sports, and other groups. After signing up, you may follow and will receive regular updates and alerts for event dates and other important information concerning the things you care about at Harriman High School. Roane County Teacher of the Year
All of the administration, teachers, staff and students at Harriman High School would like to congratulate Mrs. Theresa McKenrick who was chosen the Teacher of the Year for Roane County Schools 2012–2013. We appreciate and thank her for all she does for the students at Harriman High School.
Class Rings
Sophomore Students and Parents: there will be a "Parent Night" Thursday May 16th, after school until 6 p.m. to discuss ring order options. Bring your completed form on Friday May 17th, during your lunch time along with a $50.00 deposit and order your ring. If you designed your ring on-line and print it off, you can bring that along with your online order form and have a chance to win a free ring as long as it is turned in on May 17th. Cafeteria
Students: all cafeteria charges must be paid by Friday. All library books must be turned in by Friday May May 17th. We will not work on any student schedule this summer if all obligations have not been met by the time school is out. No senior will receive their diploma if all obligations have not been met.
Out of District
All out of district students must complete the form and turn in if the student plans to return to HHS next year.
Grade Cards
Any student or parent who wishes to receive an end of year grade card must provide a self addressed stamped envelope or you may stop by after school is out. Grade cards should be available the week of June 3rd.
Underclass Testing - Week of May 20th
Monday: 1st and 6th. Tuesday: 2nd and 7th. Wednesday: 3rd and 5th.
Summer Lunch
Students: there will be a Soup Kitchen available for lunch every weekday this summer beginning on June 3rd. This time is from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and it is free. The Kitchen is located at 229 Carter Street. (that is the church across the street from the entrance to Riverfront Park).
HHS English Department


Mrs. Mason's English class places a jumbled five paragraph essay in the correct order.
Mason Davis is in the spotlight for a cake he completed for the William Shakespeare Project in Mrs. Shubert's Accelerated English I Class. The picture speaks for itself, both the bust and book are cake with buttercream icing. Great job Mason!

Career & Technical Education
Congratulations to Evan Ford on receiving the Marketing Student of the Year Award.
Baseball
The Blue Devils improved their record to 4-3 topping Oneida at home 7-6. Next game at Grace on Tuesday the 23rd at 5:30 pm.
Mathematics Competition
Congratulations to the following students: Ezra Moore who placed 10th in Algebra II, Ty Sather who placed 6th in Algebra I and Kaitlyn Nelson who placed 7th in Algebra I. These students competed at the 57th Annual Statewide High School Mathematics contest at Roane State Community College on Tuesday, April 16th. Thanks to all who participated.
Academic Festival
Harriman High School placed 3rd overall in the AAA division at this years Academic Festival at Roane State. Individual winners included: 2nd Place Chemistry I Exam – Seth Harmon, Hayley Goldston, Ty McAbee, & Dwight Farmer. 1st Place Chemistry I – Tara Bohman, Dallas Swicegood, Gabby Kilgore, & Ezra Moore. 1st Place Chemistry II – Chris Works, Jenn Willis, Krystina Reeves, & Jenna Coley. 2nd Place Chemistry II – James Pressley, Kaitlyn Kirby, Charlie Teague, & Aaron Frost. 2nd Place Photography – Matt Brown. 1st Place Spanish Theater Level A – Grant Jenkins, Cody Sanford, Tyler Smith & Kari Lawson. 3rd Place Show Choirs – Harriman High School Chorus. Congratulations to all!
Beta Club
Congratulations to Lindsey Seymore. She was awarded first in pencil drawing at the Beta Convention. She is now eligible to compete at the National competition.
Senior Awards Day
Senior Awards Day Practice will be held on Wednesday May 15th at 1:00 in the gym. Students MUST be present to participate on Thursday morning. Students must be on-time for practice. Dress code must be observed, even at practice.
Baccalaureate
Practice: Seniors need to be at Trenton Street Baptist Church by 2:15 on the day of the Baccalaureate on May 12th.
Graduation
Graduation Practice will be held in the gym on Friday May 17th at 1:00. In order to participate in graduation on Saturday morning, students must be present for practice. Practice should last about an hour. Students should be on-time. Dress code will be enforced.
Harriman High School - FCCLA

The winners of the Flour Muffin Making Contest at the TVA & I Fair on Sept. 10, 2012 are pictured to the right.
There were over 350 entries . The fair area of competition would be all of East Tennessee. There are two divisions (Junior : for 9th graders) and (Senior: for 10-12th graders). Students are judged on appearance, taste, nutrition, and originality, and correct specification of the recipe.

Beta Club
Congratulations to Lindsey Seymour placed first in pencil drawing and will be going to Mobile, Alabama to compete in the National Beta Club Convention. Our talent, Gabby Kilgore and Charity Griffis made it to the finals in the special talent, but did not place in the top three. Mr. Langley and Ms. Wideman will join Mrs. Anderson as sponsors for the 2013-2014 school year.
Basketball Camp
There will be a Girl's Basketball Camp sometime at the end of May for grades K-8th. If you know of someone interested, please pickup a flyer in the HHS office.

Interact Club
The Interact Club would like to thank everyone involved in the success of the Yard Sale. The Yard Sale generated about $250.00. Additional community contributions brought the total to around $850.00! The Yard Sale will benefit HHS students in need this Chrismas season and the Teen Challenge Women’s Ministries in Knoxville.
FCCLA
HHS FCCLA, Mrs.Ruffner, FCCLA Chapter President-Greg Bunch
and the other high school chapters in Roane County partnered with Operation R.E.A.C.H. to help families in need this Christmas Season. At the suggestion of Greg Bunch, the chapters chose to concentrate on collecting donated wrappings for gifts so that Operation R.E.A.C.H. could dedicate more resources for purchasing toys and helping families. A big thank you goes out to everyone who contributed to this worthwhile enterprise. The HHS FCCLA chapter collected over 400 rolls of wrapping paper for Operation R.E.A.C.H. for use in the gift program. A great job by all. Thanks again!
Reading and Writing Club
All students: In order to increase skills in English and reading, HHS is now offering the "Reading and Writing Club" Monday through Thursday. Students can also use this as an opportunity to make up work and /or receive extra help in particular areas of English. You may go by the cafeteria and bring your breakfast with you if you normally eat breakfast there. If you ride a bus that comes in later, you may still attend. Ms. Shubert will have the morning classes beginning at 7:30 Tuesday - Thursday this week. Mrs. Mason will have the after school classes today, and Tuesday through Thurday this week.
Credit Recovery:
If you are behind in credits from previous years, Credit Recovery is your answer. Credit Recovery is available Monday through Thursday from 3:15 till 4:30. Begin now so you will be able to stay on track to graduate. Also if you have been referred to Plato for remediation the lab is also available to you on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

The Arrow
Students and Parents: Pre-orders for Yearbooks have been extended through December 6th.You may pay a deposit of $35.00 or pay the total cost of $70.00. The balance will be due in March or April if you just make the deposit. This Pre-sale will last about 2 weeks. Make checks payable to HHS Yearbook. Pay before school or during lunch.
A.F.Bridges Award
Harriman High School proudly announces that the TSSAA has presented our school with the A.F. Bridges Award for State of Excellence. This award is given in recognition of high ideals of ethics and integrity in the teaching and promotion of citizenship and sportsmanship. We thank our coaches for promoting thise qualities and our players for exhibiting these qualities and representing HHS in such a positive manner.
