Shop Roane 1st

A message from Director of Roane Schools - Mr. Gary Aytes

In a joint effort, the Roane County Chamber of Commerce and Roane County Schools have launched a campaign to aid in supporting education and local business entitled "Shop Roane 1st." When we spend money at home first, we support local business and education at the same time.

Roane County is rich in resources for educational opportunities. We are fortunate to have a Pre-K through 12 county school system that is looking toward the future with the purpose statement Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow being put into action in every community school. We also have all forms of higher education right in our own backyard that includes Roane State Community College, the Tennessee College of Applied Technology, and branches of Tennessee Tech and Bethel University.

Roane County Schools provide a high quality instructional program that is preparing students to be successful in the work force as well as in higher education settings. According to the U.S. Department of Labor, Bureau of Labor Statistics (2012), the level of education can make a significant difference in earning power. Statistics indicate that the average wage of a 25 year old worker without a high school diploma is a median weekly average of $471, compared with a high school graduate who earned a median weekly average wage of $652. Let's go one step further - a worker of the same age holding an associate’s degree earned $785 while a bachelor's degree earned $1,066 median weekly average. Statistics prove that education is important for the future of our students and the economy of Roane County.

It seems very clear that for our communities to prosper now and in the future we, in Roane County, must realize that education is important for everyone and has a lasting impact on each individual, family, and community. We must also realize that supporting the Chamber and Roane County Schools initiative will help our communities to grow with a thriving local economy and quality education system. By promoting this campaign all who enter our communities will know that our children are Learning Today, Leading Tomorrow with the support of all of Roane County and its’ many resources. Remember, Shop Roane 1st!
